Thousands of Australian’s know and love Wirra Wirra’s Church Block. It is a wine with a great deal of heritage and stories to tell.

It has been 10 years since Wirra Wirra initiated the move from cork seal to screw cap closures. But with corks so much a part of the heritage of wine, we have posed the question... Where have all the corks gone? As it turns out people are doing some really interesting things with unused and recycled corks.

In March this year, Wirra Wirra collected and put recycled corks to good use by creating one of the world’s largest cork sculptures. Standing 10 meters tall, the sculpture has already stunned onlookers at Melbourne’s Southbank and now it is on home soil at Wirra Wirra winery in McLaren Vale.

The sculpture follows the February launch of the Wirra Wirra ‘Call for Corks’ campaign, which helped to raise awareness and funds for Girl Guides Australia by encouraging the public to recycle old and unused corks at official Girl Guides drop off points.

Wirra Wirra has never shied away from a big idea and if you have ever visited us in at the winery in McLaren Vale, this becomes evident as soon as you see the size of our Woodhenge fence! And now… we have added this “unusual and spectacular” public work of art into the mix.
